Thank you guys for the clarification. I guess I'm still a little confused on how it's used.

Since "sound quality" and "sound pressure level" are completely different things, on completely different scales, and can be completely altered by enclosure and listening space... is it possible that an SQ sub can't be an SPL sub or vice versa? I'm thinking no.

What numbers would a woofer have to acheive on both fronts to enter the SQL hall of fame?

Personally.. I think SQL is just a term we use to describe something that gets LOUD and sounds really NICE at the same time..

Squeak... I see you're on... would you mind sharing your input, if you see this thread? Purely for satisfying curiosity.

A sub that can hit an excruciating 140 dB and still sound quite good is in the same class as a woofer that is capable of hitting 137 dB (half the SPL) and sounds extremely good, or do they need to break records like "sounding kinda' good" at 148dB... ? What makes SQL?

Dude your looking too far into it, its just a term to describe sound quality at really high volume levels... I think the IDMax coined it, but the W7 fits it perfectly. When I went to a SQL they wanted it to look good.... sound good.... and get loud doing it...

The person being judged had pictures of there install (which helps) they got metered on a SPL meter. They got judged by an individal song that the judges picked that each car played. It was listened to outside the car.... inside....... they just do a *** loud of stuff at one time.
