I drive a 4 door honda civic. I listen to rock,reggae, and some rap.

I'm not looking to shatter windows just have some low end to go with my front component set.

10" type r, 500wrms to give it. What box and how big?

Again....I searched the web before asking this and could only find info for a 12".

I have a civic too. sound doesn't travel well inside them, I'd say do a small ported box for that sub, like 1.25cu.ft. tuned to 33Hz or 1.5 cu.ft. tuned to 33Hz. You'll still have plenty of room in the trunk

I would port it in 1.3 cubic feet and tune to something like 32hz. It will be louder than a sealed box. If it's too loud for you then you can just turn down the gain. But later if you decide you want more bass you don't have to build a whole new box.

I have someone at work who builds them.

How much accuracy will I lose if I port it? I know sealed will have the best responce but it may not get loud enough. Again, not looking to ground pound.

I only want one ten so adding more subs is not a option.

a well-built ported box will show no significant signs of response loss. Also, ask if whoever is building it can make a transmission line box. would save room

the term "shattering windows" imo is people who roll their windows down(even in cold weather) and bump crappy rap at stupid volumes to impress(which it doesn't) or aggravate everyone around them. Nothing like having a dumbass next to you have music sputtering garbage about drug dealing and glorifying prostitution when you have a young child with you. This is what gives car audio enthusiast a bad name.

I don't need a car that shatters ear drums to know I'm a man. *sorry for the rant*
