Plastic or MDF board?

Would there be any difference in sound quality if one were to use an MDF board or dense plastic for your speaker adapter? I was thinking of picking up a set from TacoTunes' auction on ebay (pictured), but I’m concerned about how it will sound. Any input would be appreciated.

Looks like the high density cutting board stuff. I don't believe you'd get any weird resonances from using that, though adding a layer of deadener to it isn't going to hurt. One big bonus with those is, if they get wet, no big deal. If MDF gets wet, it soaks up water like no tomorrow.

I'd only go with wood and gasket tape, but that's just me.
