Planet audio AC5000.1D Actually a pretty great value!

Review of Amplifier:

I just wanted to make a quick post about the Planet Audio AC5000.1d I purchased this amp for just over $140 USD on eBay shipped to my door just for fun with very low expectations of actual RMS output and am pleased to say it has surprised me with the amount of power it makes for the price.

This was by no means a very sophisticated or scientific test but just a quick real world clamp. The amp was on mostly stock electrical on 1 15” Fi BL wired to 1 ohm in about a 3 cube ported box tuned in the low 30 range for this test and it clamped as follows.

Planet audio rates this amp

3750x1 @ 1

1875x1 @ 2

28hz

1,842 Watts

55v 33.5a 13.8v

1.64ohms rise.

31hz

1,917.4 Watts

55.1v 34.8a 14.1v

1.58ohms rise.

33hz

1,871 Watts

56.2v 33.3v 13.8v

1.68ohms rise.

36hz

1,952 Watts

59.1v 32.7a 14.1v

1.80ohms rise.

42hz

1,475 Watts

59v 25a 14.2v

2.36ohms rise.

46hz

1,027 Watts.

58.4v 17.6a 14.1v

3.3ohms rise.

These numbers were all most likely into clipping because I don’t have any good indication set up and don’t have access to a scope.

Within this data you can clearly see where my tuning falls off and efficiency goes out the window but despite not achieving it’s ridiculous rated numbers I was genuinely impressed with the numbers this $140 budget amp put out! It has been very reliable so far too, have been beating on it for about a year now and just recently performed this clamp.

What does everyone think? Anyone else have any planet audio experience to share?

omg man the 1500 tested at 180 rms at 2 ohm.. the #'s they say mean nothing thats like me saying my car will go 700mph (it will if u drop it from high enough) the 4k boss tested at 900rms i'd bet it's about the same as that

what ***** the most is if u had asked us we coulda got u a amp that really does 1500rms for $150-$200 bigblank here (thats his video look at his other video subscribe to his channel) he has a hifonics that tested over 1500rms $150., he had a dual amp that tested over 1500rms for like $95 couple weeks ago.. god!! wasted $ i hate that..

Your numbers are likely off by a fair margin if your using Peak Hold on your Multi and Clamp (Assuming that's the gear you used). Also that's not taking into account the Power Factor, which will yield a lower number. This is why straight clamps usually generate a higher number than an Amp Dyno or a Termlab clamp at a comp. With that being said, that amp is still likely around a 1400-1500+ amp @ 1ohm. The AC5000.1D Likely shares a board with the Boss PD5000 I tested

and DroppinHz did a dyno on that specific amp and got 1700W+ Dynamic (They likely used more gain overlap than I typically do).
For $140 they are not a terrible amp power wise (Longevity and Sound Quality are different matters all together). The issue I have with Planet Audio and Boss, is the more we give them money, the more they will continue to rate amps this way... If consumers demand real ratings MFRs will likely follow suit....

That’s pretty much where I’m at. I was just curious what it would do so I bought it to play with. Manufacturers advertising flase numbers can really screw someone over that is just getting started. That said I think I would recommend this amp to someone new to car audio. It’ll make as much power as most people ever want and for very little cash really

Can't say I agree with you there... For the same money I would recommend several other amps over the Planet Audio....

Just out of curiosity what would you say out ranks it? Bang for buck wise?
same $ soundstream 1200 tested over 1200 rms (same amp as my ppi).. for like $190 blank has kicker 1200 marine amp over 1200, even skar 1500 is $179.. blank can tell u i think the jbl 1200 or 1k tested like 1400rms $199 just vastly better amps.. belva 5k did 2100 $199 not saying it ton better but just don't buy maxxonics amps unless u seen it tested to do what u want.. that hifonics he did was pretty nice for $150
