Pitbull needs a loving home

The Bull portion if the name comes from them being a pit "Bull" dog. The ancestors were bull dogs. Bred for bull baiting. The reason pits were bred to lock is to lock down on the bulls nose. That is the only way a 60-80 pound dog is going to take a bull down consistently. Those dogs were european. Who's breeders hold a higher regard for a dogs companionship ability than the breeders here in america did when they "invented the Pit bull terrier" using other breeds.
Todays pit bull is not the same dog. it is shorter and wider and has a completely different fighting style. Sometimes mine went in tail first let them bite them then "turn in is skin" to get a lock on them. Other times he just ran in and knocked them over with his hip. Those traits were not trained. He did them instinctively. I never trained or encouraged him to fight. They were genetic. Some fighting dog breeder generations ago came across a dog that did that, Then inbred till it was genetically set that way.

Yes, they CAN fight. They know how to fight. But, just because they know how doesnt mean they are going to. That is like saying all martial artists should be killed, because they could kill someone in seconds. Pit bulls have a very good temperament and just because they are strong, and know how to fight, doesnt mean they will fight. Look at Mike Vicks dogs, they were trained to kill for months, but yet 47 of the 51 were still released and pronounced safe. They are fine with humans and they were fierce fighting dogs just months before. And actually, only ONE of his dogs were put down due to being violent/aggressive. 2 died while in the shelters, and the other one was euthanized due to medical reasons.

I agree with you there, They aren't all bad. The people that always defend them though make them out to be just big baby lap dogs though and they aren't is my point. The potential for injury is a lot greater with them.

But I think there are a lot of pit bulls, very popular dog. You don't hear about the good ones. Just the bad.

On a side note my mother had a client who was walking a therapy dog. A miniature dachsund, A neighbor let his two pit bulls out the front door as they passed and they attacked the man and dog. Mauled the man and killed the dog.

The Pit bulls owners response in court wsa "Go ahead and put them down. I don't care. i have two more pups waiting for me from the breeder."

That is the downfall of pits not the dog themselves.

And that is why I think ownership should be banned. Because of the people not the dogs. I fyou need a dog get a lab. They make great pets also.

Funny how all the moron's on the site only link to the pitbull attack's when you can find just as many from the other breeds. Had 3 pitbull's growing up 2 were put down due to old age and the 1 I have now is only 2 and never had any problems. The most aggressive dog I have seen was the German Shepard my parent's had when I was growing up. The chihuahua they have now is pretty much the spawn of Satan. My neighbor right now currently has a black lab and a dalmatian that have killed multiple dog's in the neighborhood and they are currently in the middle of a lawsuit from the dalmatian attacking a older woman who was walking down the street.

Good dog, bad dog - who cares. I would never own one for the fact as it's one of the ugliest looking dogs I've ever seen.

In this highly controlled experiment we can see the viscous nature of the pit shine.

Though these dogs are only 1/4 or perhaps 1/2 pit, we clearly see the killer instincts

take over. Notice how one dog holds the victim down while the other induces a violent

attack to the victims head.
