Pioneer DEH-P88RS-II Vs Alpine CDA-9886R

Is there any reason that I should not get the Pioneer DEH-P88RS-II?

I am also considering the Alpine CDA-9886R. The CDA-9887R is out out my budget.

Here are the specs on both:

I like the Pioneer better, is there any reason I should not get it?

I am only considering Pioneer/Alpine/Kenwood head units - please do not recommend something else because I will not be able to find it - I live in Croatia.

I am considering getting the DLS UP6 speakers in the front. Running an active crossover setup (using the Pioneer head unit) might be an option. Tweeters on front channel, midbass on rear. Anyway.. my questions are regarding the head unit and sound quality.

The Pioneer only has a 1 bit d/a converter.

I always recommend the Pioneer DEH-P800PRS. Very similar to the one you were looking at in terms of interface.

If it's out of your budget, go with the Alpine. The 9886 is a pretty nice unit.

I did a bit of research into the d/a converter.

The 800PRS (according to the website) has a:

1-bit D/A Converter 24-bit Burr-Brown (that's the way they wrote it)

It looks like the Pioneer DEH-P88RS-II has the same DAC. At the top of the page it says: 24-bit Burr-Brown Advanced Segment-Type DAC, then later on it says: 1-bit Burr-Brown D/A Converter.

Assuming the DACs are the same, is there any other reason to NOT get the Pioneer DEH-P88RS-II as far as sound quality is concerned?

No, there is no reason not to get it. It's basically just the 800 but UK style. Yes, the 800 had some oddities with the naming convention of the dac. I contacted Pioneer to get the final call on it, and it was 24bit.

I would suggest you contact them through phone/email to make sure it's 24 bit. Specifications often vary from country to contry on the same model, and they just mess up the spec sheets.

Thanks for the help //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

I will contact them via email before I finally purchase. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/cool.gif.3bcaf8f141236c00f8044d07150e34f7.gif
