Pioneer DEH-P6800MP Installing Issues

A few months ago I removed this head unit from a car we were selling. Tonight I went to install it into the oldest boys Jeep Cherokee. Hooked up ignition wire & constant 12 Volt for the memory and I could not get the freaking then fired up. Then all of a sudden I accidently touched a speaker wire from the head unit to the hot ignition wire and the thing powered up. I still can't get any sound of it...what am I doing wrong? Oh, this unit when it was installed in the previous car was hooked up to an AMP? Is there a setting inside the head unit that doesn't allow it to play?

HELP IS NEEDED..

accessory, constant, and ground is needed to power ANYTHING up.
Sorry I didn't mention that I had the constant & ground hooked up... I've installed several head units over the past 30 years in my own vehicles but I'm no profressional and this one actually has me stumped... here is what I had hooked ignition, constant 12 volt & ground... but nothing happened until I touched a speaker wire to the ignition source..

You def. don't need a speaker wire for power...

IF it's hooked up right (doesn't sound like it is though), your internal amp could be blown in the radio....which means it'll power up but put out no sound, so you'll need a 4 channel amp to get sound. OR, that Jeep Cherokee could have a factory amp in it which needs to be powered on. Find the amp turn on wire and hook it up to ignition or the blue/white wire off the HU.

Good luck!

V.
