Pioneer AVH-P4300 DVD and USB hub

What i want to do is have a usb connection in my lower console to always have a solid state hard drive with all my music and one in my upper console for the iphone cable. I tried a usb hub not knowing that people have not had any luck with these. Is there another solution? Or should i just use the same connection up top and switch them out whenever i want to use one of the other? I did search for a solution, but all i found was that usb hubs dont work.
