pictures for the hell of it

i think many people on this thread are talking about two different things.

1) for speaker wire, size really doesn't matter. since it is carring AC current, much thinner wire is needed.

2) for power wire, since it makes such long runs, size does matter to a point. the main difference wont be power gain, it will just be a strain onthe wire. any strain is not wanted obviously

My understanding was that it was 3db's.

Here we go...

Decible level of I = 10*log(I/Io)

Lets say a stereo at 80dB has an intensity (Io) of 10^8*Io. Two stereos will have an intensity twice that amount, of course being -> 2(10^8*Io).

Using a calculator, you can easily see that the decible change TWO stereos opposed to one is 3dB.

Which is ...... 10*log((2*10^8*Io)/Io) = 83dB

Thats just an example, but as most know, decible levels reflect the logarithmic scale.

So... conclusion? When something sounds like its twice as loud, its a +3dB change.

That help anybody? Sorry for bustn out the mid-highschool math....//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Yeah. Dont worry about it - glad you got technical:)

What we were discussing was how many decibels does it take to notice a change in SPL ... (I think that's what we were discussing) I just wanted to know how much of an increase, in db's, it took for the human ear to detect an audible difference /QUOTE]

okay obviously your stupid, if you look at the very first page with the at my first post you will see 10 guage wire, that was my finished install, TEN GUAGE WIRE, that is large for speaker wire okay since your slow a s s brain didn't pick it up T E N guage...and it is called a multimeter, don't try to act like i don't know about voltage drops and signal loss cause A: I worked at A&B sound here in regina, and krazy kileys before that. B: I am a second year electrician apprentice....

And again if you would read all the threads before mine you will see that Everyone agrees that the difference between my 10 guage and say 14 guage is nothing, the signal loss is in audible...

InAudible means you cant hear it! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif

and don't tell me you could notice it cause if you can you are ful of s h i t.

and just incase again, that means i Changed it from the 14 guage wire i had in the pic you saw to 10 guage, thats righs spell it out T E N G U A G E...and guess what no audible differece....

every saleman is a crook, so don't gimme that speech about them being crooks....when you make you r cash of off comission, wouldn't you wanna sell lots of crap...

I'm confused lol //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif guage isnt in the Dictionary :p //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif
