He has at least 2 things going for him that you don't. Aeroports + more power. You were running 5K to your subs with a slot port. The aeroports are going to be louder, plain and simple. Couple the aeroports with more power and he is going to be really loud. When I did a test between a slot ported box and aeroport box, the aeroport box was 1.6 Db louder. Boxes were built identical to one another; same volume and port area. Later on after I did my test I saw the technical write up about how aeroports are SO much better allowing you to use roughly 56% less port area than a slot port.

When I did a test between a slot ported box and aeroport box, the aeroport box was 1.6 Db louder.

only problem with that assumption is that there are several types of slot box alignments, so if you just made one of the various types then that statement is misleading.
