Physically CAN'T read my text book.

Ok, I'm in a "Modern refrigeration practice" class, and I have my handy dandy textbook. There's a lot of stuff in this course that I just don't know, and I'm kinda skipping ahead since it's only offered in fall, so I'm really trying to play catch up to the other students.
Problem is... every time I read the book I get about 10 minutes in and I start dozing off. EVERY TIME. What I do manage to read isn't really sticking either. I already know the base concepts being discussed, so it would seem that the finer details should fall in place, but nope, I'm turning up a big jack shit on the progression scale.

Before some of you start... Yes, I CAN read. Yes, I CAN comprehend. I don't read a whole lot of books, but I've never had this happen before. This book is SO boring, SO technical, and SO bland, that even if I just finished a double shot of espresso, it puts me out like it was it's job.

Does anyone have ANY tips or experience with this?

I've been maintaining great grades and would like to keep it that way. I'd like to take care of this NOW, instead of later being as I'll be writing a research paper later.

Thanks guys.

I don't think a single double shot is enough.

I would try downing (3) energy drinks as fast as you can before you have a reading session.

It's expensive, but when compared to cocaine it will save you money.

Here's my favorite setup....

Give yourself a goal. Say i read ten pages and i will get to eat dinner... or go for a drive.

Make it to where you're forcing urself to finish reading in order to get to the next point.

It's how i get through each week of school. Pick something to look forward to, I.E. the weekend/chillin/bassin/whatever

Try taking notes as you read. Or highlight the hell out of the text as you go along.

Yep, this helped me a lot when I had to read a lot of boring *** books for my English Lit class. Not only do I hate reading things I don't care about, I really hate reading things that I don't care about that I MUST read AND gain some sort of knowledge from. It wasn't something I did on purpose, just happens that way.

This is what I usually did. Highighted what I felt were key phrases.

I also did this as well. I would read a chapter then watch some tv, read a chapter then fart around on the internet, etc.

Of course, I've forgotten everything that I learned in school since I graduated over a year ago. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif
