Phoenix Gold RSDC 12's

I've been wanting to upgrade my current stereo and was hoping for a little input on subwoofer selection. I'm not looking to enter any SPL comps or anything, this is just for my daily driver. I've had a pair of Audiobahns for years now and never quite understood why they sounded so poor. I had a store bought bandpass box that sounded pretty awful, and after I switched it out for a sealed box I noticed a huge improvement in SPL. Only drawback was I noticed the bass sounded a lot more boomy at certain frequencies. I found WinISD a few weeks ago and discovered it was my enclosure volume that made it sound boomy. Unfortunately I can only get the QTC under 1.0 if I ran a single sub in over a 4 ft^3 enclosure! So Ive made the decision to upgrade my subwoofers. I'm looking to run two 2 ohm DVC subs in a sealed box thats about 3.4 ft^3, with an amp pushing between 5-600 rms to each sub. I compared the Fosgate Punch 3, Hifonics Atlas, Cerwin Vega VMAX, and Phoenix Gold RSDC's. According to WinISD the Phoenix Gold has the best stats in my enclosure, so now I'm wondering about the quality of the subs. Does anyone on here run these? Thanks in advance.

they're good subs. it's been awhile since i designed a box for those, but 1.7 sealed seems a bit large for those.. a flat line isn't neccesarily what you want from winisd either, since you aren't running the sub in free air. i seem to recall doing a tad over 1 cu. ft. for those sealed.

well my box is 2.7 total, but i have a little over a pound of poly in each chamber and i saw a graph somewhere stating that 1 pound of poly is good for roughly a .3 gain of volume. so im only guessing i have 1.7 per chamber. i could always take the poly out and that would leave me with 1.35 per chamber.

it'll probably sound pretty good. better than any prefab. power handling will likely drop.

You should like the rsdc12s I put a pair of 10s in my friends mustang in a ported enclosure of 1.7 cubes total tuned to 32 hz and they get loud and sound great with only 150 watts rms to each woofer and they are rated at 600 rms. The 10s seem to be VERY efficient and again they sound smooth and play low.

I was definitely leaning toward getting these subs but as the other guy pointed out I think my enclosure is too big for them to run with the size amp I'm using. The manual lists 1.17 as the largest enclosure size, mines a 1.35. Right now I'm running a 1000x1 amp, which would be 100 RMS under their limit, but does anyone know roughly how much the power handling drops after abandoning the recommended box specs? I'm also looking at picking up a pair of Hifonics Atlas subs, they are the same RMS but lists a 1.5 cf. enclosure as their limit so I think those will be a safer bet. The Orion XTS Pro is another pair I'm considering picking up, those are 500 RMS and list a 1.5 cf. box as the optimum size. If anyone has any experience with any of those subs let me know. They are all good prices, the Atlas definitely looks to be the best built of the bunch and the only one I actually have a review on. http://www2.pasmag.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=1234&Itemid=104

I could probably get away with the phoenix's for awhile with my current amp, ive read Hifonics usually overrate their amps. Im not sure how long theyve been doing that for, the Zeus model i have is a 20th anniversary so its about 7 years old. I havn't done the big 3 and it dims my headlights if I have the gain up more than halfway so i dunno. Im looking to get an mtx x1000d, its a d class so im hoping with that and the big 3 I shouldnt have any electrical problems. Anyone know if mtx over/underrates their amps?
