Right so a lot of you know that i have a PG RSDC 12 2 ohm sub..
I have a Hifonics 1606d amp and in a previous thread i discovered that by using a digital clamp meter i can see that i was only giving my sub 480w...
Long story short it was tuned via DMM to 32v at 1 ohm, i assumed it was 1000w but it was way off because of box rise, amps etc. So i tuned it using clamp meter and dmm to where it was giving 780w RMS verified by amps and voltage and the new resistance.. The sub sounded HORRIBLE.. It hit extremely hard and sounded like it was OVER Trying at everything it was doing. I had no bass boost etc it was all flat from the deck.
So basically i have it tuned to 510w rms and it sounds NICE clean and loud..
My question is why did it sound so bad just 180w over its RMS power of 600w?
I had to turn the gain up to almost 3000w if you go by the gain setup equation v^2 / ohm but i only was pulling 19 amps so it came out to 780w.. Was it because my amp was clipping, was it because the sub isnt made to go past its RMS very well, the sub was over stepping its xmax im sure.
How can i calculate the optimal wattage for this sub?
My box is Ported at 30hz 2.5 cubes.
Right now i got it set at 40v pulling 18a so 40vx18a x .707 ~ 510w rms
Does anyone else have this sub to confirm if it takes 1000 REAL rms watts, also backed up by amperage rating, because this whole time i could have swore i was feeding 1000w rms because of the voltage off the amp.
