the way i see it.... your saying taking handouts is a bad thing... just b/c you don't do it..

you still haven't told me how being a sophmore in HS and living in my parent's home still is taking a handout........

Well it may or may not be a handout. As long as a person does his/her share to help around the house, work...etc....then your contributing, therefore it isn't a handout. But then there are the rich kids (not all of them are rich) that mommy and daddy buy everything for and they will never learn the value of anything because they take handouts.

those kids are called spoiled...

and its not the kids fault... its the way they were raised....

Taking handouts isn't a bad thing, but it isn't a good thing. The way I see things is if somebody gives you a handout, eventually they are going to expect something in return or they have you in the palm of their hand (so to speak). This is why I don't take handouts. I feel uncomfortable taking things from people knowing that eventually they are going to want something in return and I am basically indebt to them until something is worked out.

It's the kids fault and the parents fault. I know people that were raised by drug addicts, does this mean they in turn become a drug addict because that was the way they were raised? In most cases probably, but in some cases no. It's all about a persons will.

How often does that happen though? Usually people always want something in return. Even I have done something for someone and when I needed help, I bring up the fact that I helped them out before.

I was raised around parents that smoke, yet I've never tried a cigarette.

No, that's not it. As a matter of fact. out of 2 brothers and a sister, only 1 smokes. 2 of them do drugs. 2 of us don't.

It's not what you were raised around it's what you as an individual choose to do. That's why you hear these stories of athletes raised in the ghettos or baseball players in cuba that worked so hard to make it out. They could have chosen to live the rest of their life the way they were raised, but they didn't.

I'm 23, I will never try it. I hate the smell of it, and most of all, I'm cheap and wouldn't waste my money on it.
