Perception of Bass increases on opening the doors! Am i crazy?

I just installed a system in my new car, and believe it or not, but I feel the lack of bass at higher gains (Eclipse 7200 on a DPX11551 paired with a W12Gti!). But as soon as I open the door/window, i feel the bass to be hitting louder and harder. What EXACTLY is wrong with the install (or me?

The acoustics dramatically change when the doors/windows are opened. For one it increases your car's volume to infinite and also changes how the waves are reflected

one more quick question.

My car is a sedan with a 400 litre boot, and the subwoofer (in the boot) is getting the better part of 1200 W of RMS power.

Is it recommended that I make an air vent for the sub (hole in the parcel shelf to let the air into the cabin)

Will this change things? I feel a lot of frequencies are missing. Is this due to air lock or incorrect Xover settings?

If you vent the trunk to the cabin, you will get better bass in the cabin. the last one I did was a simple 6 inch by 12 inch hole in the rear deck, then made a frame out of some scrap wood and stretched lycra(speaker screen) over it, dropped it into the hole and bam! vented trunk. Sounded much better
