searched. pm'd people. but still havent gotten an answer

im wondering how close can i have my box to my hatch without having the hatch act as an extension of my port thus making my tuning lower? ive read that this can happen and im basically wondering how i can keep that from happening but still leaving me with a lot of room to build my new box.

ive always left 4-5" minimum, so if i dont get a different answer ill stick with that. btw car is an explorer sport.

ive had my port right up on my hatch with no problems
1) no noticeable different in output?

2) no noticeable different in where the box peaks?

basically im worried if i have a 5" wide port, and i keep it 5" away from the hatch, the 90 degree part of the hatch will act as an extension of the wall, and now my 35hz tuning will be a 26hz tuning, or similar.

I've had it slide back and not notice. I doubt it will act as an extention, because its open on top...
ok i know this picture is ghetto as hell, but heres whats going through my head

the purple is the sub. the pink is the port, and the blue part is what i am thinking could possibly act as an extension of the port. seams like it could very well happen no?

ur paranoid. 5" wide port means alteast 5 inches from the back. You don't have a top on what you are thinking is the extension to your port.
i dont understand.

if it had a top it wouldn't be a port

im not paranoid...its called research

mine is about 12 inches, and honestly ive nver even thought about that. but i think the waves just bounce off the hatch, they dont shoot upwards.
i just dont see it though. i mean the front of the box is sitting near the hatch which are just like a port i would think.

btw this would be in a box that sits above the wheel wells and completly fills the rear hatch area, save where i drew that blue line on the hatch.

Basically he is saying the hatch wouldn't act as an extension to the port because once "it" leaves the port, it is open air. Yes there is a wall in front of it, but there is nothing above it, like in the port itself (top of box).

i still dont get it.

how is it any different than this

i coped the box and changed the coloring to show what im talkin about. on the bottom box, the blue part is the port now. so how is this port, any different than if this was created by using the hatch door?

the other picture is a rear view. yellow are the wheel wells. you get the picture.
