pawn shops..

I'd try ebay. You never know.

I picked up a ford taurus MACH rcu from a junkyard and put it on ebay. bought it for 25 and started bidding at 30. Got a few bids raising it to like 35 bucks. At the last seconds before it ended some dude bid $76 to make sure he got it lol. I was shocked I got that much.

Turned out it was a TCCA member. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

in general, Pawn shops find the retail, then offer you 1/4 of it. So if it sells for $200 new, they will offer you $50

You pretty much nailed it for most items.

You have to loan based on 'market value'...if is an item that you get alot of people walking in looking to buy, you can loan higher.

But you have to look at it like this, EVERYONE walking in a pawn shop wants a deal when they buy.

Not just a deal, but a HELL of a deal. So, most of the time items on the shelf (if in very good condition) are priced ~1/2 of retail. It you buy big or multiple items, we can work on the prices.

One thing I really hate is when someone walks in, see item-x that retails for $500 and we have it priced $270 and its in great condition. They offer $100, and I laugh in their face. (had a guy do what w/ a Crest Audio rack mount amp friday) Told him $265...we will eat the tax (9.99% around here, so thats ~11% off)

Car audio is a little different. We pawn and buy alot of it. BUT w/ 12v you can't go by retail because 90% of the brands out there are *****d out on ebay. So, say you walk in w/ an L715. Retails $550, ebay $280....so we offer ~$100. That way if the person doesn't come back and get the sub, we can actually see **** thing.

Oh, and just to throw this out there, if i see 8 L7 10's...3 of them have torn spiders. Guess dem kicka's cant handle da bass.

If you want to know more about a pawn shop (a good one, not one full of assholes)...ask me //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

I've pawned about 50 subs and amps in my lifetime.

I got tired of asking "Hey what can you give me on these 2 treo 12s?" and hearing "$60 bux"

12v doesnt hold its value in pawn shops, lol

It has value, but only as much as the local market will allow.

Some pawn shops don't even take 12v.

As for the brands the most people here on the forums consider 'good', they may hold VERY little value in a pawn shop. That is simply because the general public knows nothing about DD, Treo, RE, IA, RD, ect. They pawn shop can't sell it if people don't come in looking for it.

For example, we are a pawn shop and an audio shop. We carry DD, Powerbass, Pioneer, Clarion. I have a pair of used DD2515's w/ 6" CF up front, they have been sitting there for months unsold. BUT, if i have a pair of CVR 15's at the same price....they won't last a week. People buy what they THINK is good.

Here is a common conversation i have w/ pawn customers:

them - you take sub?

me - yes, some of them, what kind do you have? How much $ are you trying to borrow?

them - i got them kicker competitions

me - comps?

them - them competitions, they beat!

I walk out and take a look in the vehicle...yea...they are 2 year old comps. I offer ~$65 for 2 comp12's in a shitty sealed box.

them - man they them competition subs, i need like $300

me - those are the cheapest subs kicker makes, there is nothing "competition" about em.

them - man i paid $xxx for them

me - you got stuck.

I then proceed to show them DD512's for the same price they paid for the comps. Show them just how much better built they are, take em in the sound room and let them here 1 DD510 that sounds better than their 2 comp 12's on the same power.

me - look man, i have to buy your subs and resell them. you may be able to get more for them on the street, or check other shops. But when you get ready for some REAL subs, drop back in...i'll get you hooked up for real.

Its a win-win situation.
