hi. im deciding which panasonic will be good for my car. And so far, there are the:

cq-c7401 $185

4x25w

4x50w rms

cq-c8301 $192

25x4w

50x4 w rms

cq-c9700u $250

4x60w

I dont really know much about head units.. but I just want something that will make my components sound nice. Can anyone tell me the difference between these 3 and which one I should get?

no way! i think thats the peak power. yea its peak but 25wrms wich is still good for a hu.

but umm yea if you have the money, get the more expensive one.

panasonic = good tho so any choice is a good choice. If you want all those features and good stuff, go with the top of the line, if you want just basic stuff, go with the lower one, and save a hundred bucks

like said above, dont use your HU to power your comps.

the only main difference that i know of between the 7401 and 8301 is that the 8301 has adjustable x-over points while the 7401 has non-adjustable.

not too sure about the 9xxx series

if your comps came w/ x-overs then just save the money and go w/ the 7401.

everyone says dont run components off your HU but im running mine off my HU and there fine...sound ok, could use an amp but there FINE. Dont knock it till you try it...

Components can be adequate powered by a head unit (adequate being relative to the individual user) but under most circumstances you'll not realize the components' full potential without being externally amplified.

That being said, out of the choices listed I'd go with the 9700 as it's simply got a great deal more "goodies" in it than its lower-priced brethren and $250 (assuming it is a BNIB unit) is a decent price.

I don't know of any head unit currently built (or past year's models for that matter) that can make 60w/channel RMS cleanly or otherwise. I'd have to wager a guess that's a typo or simply less than truthful.

There actually is a deck that puts out 60 watts RMS.....Ill look around for what it is. But those decks above, the wattage ratings are peak.....Get the one with the most features.

If you're talking about the Alpine with the V-Drive or whatever they called it that claims you have to run a separate power and ground to it b/c theoretically the wiring in a vehicle's stock harness would prove insufficient have a look around online for the benchtests on it. It ended up making considerably less than 60w/channel RMS.
