ok so is there sucha thing as over powering? im talking in moderation here people! no b.s. for real would hooking up 1200 rms to two dvc subs capable of handling around 400 rms kill the woofers? personally i really dont think so as long as i set the gain low right? let me know

just because an amp puts out X amount of power does not mean u need to use it all. set your gain with a DMM and you should be fine. read the gain setting tutorial.

Put the subs in a smaller box and it will go along way in increasing the power you can throw at them.
It all depends on the sub and its purpose, some subs cannot be in a sealed box.

If you try hooking up an amp capable of making more than your subwoofer's rms rating, it will instantly explode. Seriously.
What are you smoking.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wow.gif.23d729408e9177caa2a0ed6a2ba6588e.gif

Set the gains correctly and you will be fine.A 10,000 watt amp on a 400 watt sub would be fine as long as the gains were kept at a minimal
Actually depends on your pre-out on your HU.

But, even still, a 10K watt amp, even at 10% power, it's putting out more than double the nominal RMS for that sub.

I'm pretty sure you mean some subs won't work well in sealed boxes

then you set the gain so it's only give 5% power, or even less //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crazy.gif.c13912c32de98515d3142759a824dae7.gif

It has nothing to do with gain.

The answer to your question is "no" ....there is no such thing as overpowering. But, there is such a thing as thermal and mechanical limits of a speaker. If you cannot sense when or if you're about to reach those, then you better stay on the "safe" side of things.

i generally call it headroom //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif but yes there are thermal and mechanical limits of a speaker so yes you could potentially overpower a speaker

spl burps you can do alot high than rms... even max depending on the quality of the woofer... i would suggest burping funky pups at 3k watts but more quality subs yes....

daily driver stuff shouldnt be overpowered by too much... but its all about setting gains, you really dont need a dmm, just use your ear.... if it starts soundin muffed up, turn your gain down... that simple the end /thread your welcome
