Orion vs eD

srsly
i'm looking for a four channel amp to power some Diamond D3 coaxials. The two amps i had in mind were the Orion HP-4600 and the eD NINe.4.

If anyone has any experience with either amp, feel free to chime in.

I am curious if the eD would be worth the extra $45.

other suggestions are also welcome. I don't really want to spend more than the NINe.4 price of approx. 250

btw, i can wire 4 Diamond D3 coaxials to 4 ohms right? :noob:

thanks in advance.

I wouldn't get the Orion. That amp in particular is nothing special. I have an eD nine.5, and have had no problems with it. For the price, they are pretty solid amps.

As for the nine.4, it's hard to justify getting it when you can get a JL 300/4 for a similar price. It's about $35 extra bucks if you shop around.

thanks for the reply. the speakers i'm trying to power are only 50 watts rms. would it be necessary to buy the JL?

Both the eD amp and the JL amp are underrated. So, you can expect both of them to push 80-90rms per channel without breaking a sweat.

It's a good thing, actually. Keep the gain down a little to keep noise/distortion low.

I'm not trying to change your mind, I just feel some of eD's amps fall into the price category of some real name brands. At that rate, you might as well make the leap to get something known, CEA rated, and trusted without a doubt.

Even with the way Directed has watered down everything and hurt many great brand names...

still Orion > eD.
so would you also suggest that i get the Orion amp that pushes 1200 watts instead of the NINe.1 too? (the HCCA-D2400)

thanks.

lol with all of these mixed replies i'm even more torn than before. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

and millertime thanks for the offer but i'm not sure my parents will go for buying from someone online. they will be the ones ordering and i'll pay them back otherwise i'd consider it. thanks though.

also consider kicker or sundown amps.
i was looking at the sax 100.4 but its a little out of my price range. and if it is as underrated as people say, i think it might be excessive for the little D3 speakers.

plus i'm kind of nerdy and i think it'd be cool to have matching amps //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/nerd.gif.c6fa51ddf7ff75f1c0371fbc648f70ae.gif

I believe that is what Denim is referring to. Orion has undergone changes over the years, but considering they are a North American-wide company, their longevity speaks volumes.

On a personal note, as the proud owner of two 2500d's, I would select the Orion as well. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/cool.gif.3bcaf8f141236c00f8044d07150e34f7.gif

oh alright its up to you man. just some to consider.
thanks mang //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/thumbsup.gif.3287b36ca96645a13a43aff531f37f02.gif

glad to hear more people trust Orion. my friend has the D2400 that i'm looking at, but i was scared because he has really slight dimming when its cranked.

(no electrical upgrades)
