Orion H2.2 15's

I'm thinking of getting 2 of these subs for my firebird. What are your opinions on these? Also what size box and tuning range would be best for these with around 2200 watts going to them. Maybe more power later. I can get about 2 cubes per sub if I go with 2 subs and can get 4 cubes if I go with 1 sub, so any ideas on this. Thanks in advance.

I have last years model 12'', the HCCA 12D. I am very pleased with it to be honest with you. It is mostly an SQL sub. I have it in a custom 2.29 cu ft.^2 enclosure after displacement and have ONLY 600Wrms going to it. It needs more but definitely turns heads even now.

The design on the new H2's is really nice. They remind me a lot of the Diamond TDX's. They will also perform really well. Solid woofers. The best way to find out the best size box and tuning range would be to visit their website.

A few questions though:

1. What are you looking to get out of this sub? (SPL, SQL, etc)

2. How much space are you willing to give up? These subs, any many others in this category need a lot of space, especially since you are thinking of (2) 15's

The website suggests that you, for a ported enclosure, you should use a 2.25-2.5 cu ft^3 enclosure. The port should measure 5'' in diameter and be 19 inches long, tuned to 33Hz.

Hope this helps.

O.K. thanks for the reply

1. I am looking for at least a 150 would like to see a lil better

2. I can scrape up 5 cubes for 2 subs if needed

You should be able to get that out of those as long as you are willing to do a few things to your car.

There are a lot of guys on this forum that know a lot more about numbers here than I do. But I have to definitely URGE you do build a quality box (instructions are available here or elsewhere) and to use a quality sound deadener in your car. Any extra vibration is going to limit the possibility of you hitting 150.

That being said, happy bumpin'.

How much are the H2's anyways?

Building a quality wont be a problem. I've done a plenty of woodworking. However all this technical stuff with stereos is new to me. I've not yet used any sound deading material in the car, but will be looking into that soon. With this new install I'm going to have to add some extra power for the amps and some more upgrades. Right know i've got a 140 amp alt with no caps or anything xtra. I'm running 2-12" pioneer with 450 rms going to them. I put up a 141.3 in the only comp i've done. That reached my goal of 140 so now onto 150. Thanks for the input.

If you could give each sub 2.5 cubes that would be perfect!!! I've tried my H2 in many diff. boxes and 2.5 seems to be a sweet spot for them. You said "about 2200 watts going to them" I assume thats both right? So 1100 each? That leaves you plenty of room to upgrade your amp(s) later on. And just out of curiosity......How much you paying for the subs?

Well after more thought I beleive I'll be putting 1500 watts on each sub. Thanks for all the input. Oh... the 15's will cost me 400 each and they are the 2 ohm ones.

Thanks all for the info, I'm going to keep the equipment that I've mentioned and change cars. My wife isn't happy with the idea that I was going to turn HER car into a lifesize speaker box //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/mad.gif.c18f003ab0ef8a0d9c27ca78d77a6392.gif So I'm on the hunt for another hatchback. She wants the subs and amp out thats in there now. I said NO PROBLEM, but I'm getting me a car, (Not that a race car, van, truck, motorcycle and 2 boats wasn't enough in the yard to start with.) So what hatchback makes the best spl car? I've heard that some cars are better than others for spl. Can someone give me some tips on a vehicle please. Thanks again everyone. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/cool.gif.3bcaf8f141236c00f8044d07150e34f7.gif

If you are just looking to compete with these, then go out an buy an old Honda CRX. Gut the thing and then put down as much sound deadener as you want/can.

Ford Fiestas are good too.

Anyone else have any suggestions?

i would just like to add that the H2 is an excellent choice. a buddy runs just 1 15", it is sealed and is getting 1 Jonah Fusion per coil, so over 2k //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif sounds tight and controlled, but shakes the fillings outta your teeth too //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif
