Only 1 VC hooked up does....

What? Is it bad for the sub? I might be able to get a rockford RFR-3112, but the guy has only had 1 vc of the DVC 2's hooked up for a while.. Will it damage it? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/greedy.gif.5a53e6246569d7ab79867170f3b06629.gif

Won't necessarily damage it. However, only running one coil cuts the power handling in half, and pretty much changes every T/S parameter while that one coil is being powered (which in turn changes the required box size, etc etc).

Done with care, it can work and work fine. However, I'd be careful and curious as to why he only ran one coil (i.e. the other coil could be toast).

And, just for an FYI; what lemans is describing is exactly the same pricinple that the Ascendant Atlas drivers are based off of......power one coil, and use the other as a "resistence" coil to fine tune the subs Qts/Qtc.

i wouldnt buy any (and i do mean any) subwoofer that only had 1 coil hooked up... especially if it was used at higher listening levels... it cant be good for it. there is no benefits what-so-ever of using a driver like this.

As long as he didn't overpower the single coil, it won't damage anything. Power one coil, toss a potentiometer(sp?) on the other and you now have an "Ascendent Atlas" style driver with a variable Qts (and subsquently variable Qtc). Mind you, Bl is decreased, power handling is cut in half, effiency decreases, box size requirements change, etc etc. But damaged? Nope.

Well, I bought the other one off him, (The one I have now) and he's powering the sub with a kenwood '1000' watt amp I do believe. He's doing it because and I quote, "It works fine, and I don't need it any louder anyways." Well, I dunno, I want a pair of these, and I believe they would be a decent SQL setup. But I was just wondering.

Termlab: Sent the amp in, no word as to how it's going...

i didn't even know that....i've just seen people do it with dayton drivers

This man thinks his system is awesome.

He used to boast(sp?) his 1000 watt amp. When I was a super newbie, I was like //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/veryhappy.gif.fec4fed33b4a1279cf10bdd45a039dae.gif PAMP!....

I asked him what amp he had, he said Kenwood 1k. I was like well cool..

Searched... found this :Kendwood 1k amp

He said **** ur good thats it...

Looked at the specs to reveal the following:

stereo, mono or Tri-Way output

1000 watts max power

460 watts x 1 in bridged mode //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/blush.gif.99bc659ee2012b7d826165e26fb5eebe.gif

230 watts x 2 at 2 ohms

And at first, he tryed to run both these subs with this amp!
