one Z v.4 12" or two l7 15"s

Hello im new to the forum and kinda new to car audio. Right now i have one l7 15" hooked to a 400.4 rockford amp. With taxes coming up i know for a fact im going to do a "big 3" add a battery and buy a 2400 watt brutus hifonix amp. My question is What is going to sound better. (loud but clear). Also if anyone could think of a better sub in the same price range that would be great aswell.

Cone area would normally win, but I have my aversions to the L7. Just never seemed to get them to sound right to my ears.

If you're looking at a Zv4, that's one hell of a budget for a sub. If you're looking for loud and clean, I can think of a few options that would make you pretty happy:

SSA ZCON (550 shipped gets you a pair of ZCON used right here)

15" Incriminator Audio Death Penalty (yes, build time is insane on IA woofers right now)

Tantric HDD

Just to name a few. Realistically, once you pop the $400 budget, there's a lot of choices. Based on the power you're running to the L7 right now, you better brace yourself for what's available with the kind of subs you're budgeting yourself into. There's really no fair comparison.

If you plan to stick with the Hifonics, you should be able to swing a pair of 12" SSA GCON. I would recommend that setup WAY before the L7

I wanna stay away from a 15 if i change only for the fact that i drive a scion iq (kinda like a smart car). And im open to different amps. the hifonics was just the most power for the price. (that i have found) are the ssa gcons going to put out more that 1 zv.4 if they are both powered off the same amp?

Only modeling and testing will tell you that. In light of the glue issues that have yet to be fixed on both the X and Z, I would say your money is better put elsewhere. A pair of GCON should cost you less than one Z and, yes, I would recommend the pair of GCON instead for that reason

if you already have the L7, I'd get the new amp and do the big 3... and feed that L7 till it dies, then look at getting some petter subs.

also pics of said setup and wiring of the sub?

I would also go with the Gcons. I have never ran them personally, but with all the hype I know they are good. Ssa is known for sound quality, especially in their lower lines. This is the woofer your looking for.

On a side note, it may be better for your system as a whole to keep the sub you have now, but drop a solid 400 on an amp. Or if you are feeling froggy, and I see you have an 800 dollar budget, if I were you I would do both. Get two Gcons, then buy a solid 2k amp such as a dc2.0k.
