It can be done if you are careful, I have given subs way more than 3x rated with good results.

We're talking subs you can buy at Best Buy. Not highly underrated obscure internet brand subs, or DDs.

And I assume careful would imply turning down the gains...in which case you're not actually putting 3x the rated power to them anyways.

why a maxxlink? those amps are strappable, and your gonna need something to charge those batts...like a HO alternator. unless this is just a comp setup.
