I have many (too many //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif) friends that have no real comprehension about wiring things together the right way the first time so it doesn't have to constantly be redone. So, for the most part they do not understand why I would invest as much cash as I have in the good 1/0, 4, and 8awg cabling that I use along with the 12awg and 14awg for speaker wire (shutup Jmac, I don't care that it's overkill //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif), the distro blocks, decent interconnects, etc etc etc when they reckon that any old wire all spliced together with those joints covered with no more than vinyl tape and the cheapest of Radio Shack RCAs work "just as well."
When something they've done screws up (as it inevitably does) I'm normally the one that gets called to troubleshoot. The most I've ever 'charged' for a decent amount of actual install work which comprised of a HU, two amps, a component set and one sub in a prefab box, was plenty of Gatorade to drink during the install as it was hot as blazes that day and the install was happening in my bud's driveway. After it was done said friend also bought me dinner, which was cool but unnecessary.
