I want to replace it with a 12. I use a Alpine MRP m1000. I want to go Alpine or JL if I go JL will I blow it to? My gain is at half and the L7s are stong and rated at 1000 watts so I cant believe I grenaded it. Is JL the way to go?

yea sounds like your gains wasn't set correct. When you overpower a sub your gains need to be set accordingly. It took me about two days of trail and error to set mine
