Whats the general purpose or advantage of a transmission line enclosure?

And whats the point of a phase plug on some midbasses like the one i have? I mean you lose cone area of the mids when theres a phase plug in the middle, so theres a negative.

a transmission line is VERY efficient, so you get more output (at the expense of a monster size box)

A phase plug focuses higher frequencies, and you are NOT losing cone area because the speaker doesn't "use" the far inside of the cone for it's lower freq range reproduction.
