Run DMC is what started good rap... and that did not last long. Good rap turned to wannabe gangsta rap... like 50 Cent... and now he does not even rap he sings for kids now.

Most big rappers out there made it big with good rap in the underground which is great rap. Slim Thug was pretty good and now his Already Platinum CD is just the same old thing.

Other good rappers are Canibus, Too Short (tho already mentioned), UGK, NWA and Tupac. There are more. Old school rap was good for it's lyrics. Today's stuff has nice beats but every song has similar lyrics. It is rare to get a great song that is new but it still happens.
