i just installed a new system in my yukon xl. I have cdt hd 63's up front, cdt hd braxials in the rear fill and 2 soundstream 12" da vincis in a ported box in the rear. I have all older rockford amps pushing the system, a 600a4 for the componants and 2 800a2 (1) for each sub. I am running 4ga wiring and after just a half hour the subs are very hot. Is this typical and if so what can i do about this. The amps are in the open the 800a2's are mounted on the back of the sub box with plenty of space between the bench seat and the box. The 600a4 is mounted on the cargo floor between the other amps in the rear of the box with nothing in the way. Would a fan work

First of all I love those series Amps..If it's not causing any issues..Maybe it's alright. I would get the opinion of some of the other members..But I had a 360A2 once and I could swear a guy told me that the GAIN adjustment creates a heating problem..but I am not sure. Overall I do not know if it's SO HOT that you need to worry.

We will se on some other Responses

Yup, I used to have the 60 and the 40 in that amp generation, and they always ran EXTREMELY hot, but never once did they crap out. Ironic that they look like BBQ Grills....

The outer shell is the heatsink on every amp //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif
Anyways, RF's amps have a reputation for being BBQs ... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

my 250a2 and 125a2 get warm, and I have messed with many 800's in the past, and dont stress the heat unless they are starting to shut off after minial play

My JL amp gets so hot you cant touch it. But it doesnt burn anything up. So I leave it alone. So I doubt there is anything wrong with yer amps. All amps will run warm to hot at one point or another

EXACTLY..MY girls 160A2 gets hot running a single 10"...I have never had the amp lose any performance or cut out
I have a 160a2 laying around in my garage- great amp, knocks the hell out of every sub i've put it on- will most likely go in my wifes Pathfinder when I wrap up my system

amp does run crazy hot bridged 4ohm, and I've had go into protect/shut off numerous times when I tried to run it 2 ohms stereo

to sorta stay on topic, I am looking to sell my 125a2, I need some more money for fiberglass, so I need to clean out my stash of amps

PM me if interesed or use the email addy in sig

OH YEA...Those Fosgate amps are great...I mean Check out EBAY for some of those old Fosgate amps..they go for BIG $$$..I see those 60ix and 100ix's get like 30+ bids and go for $200...Everyone says they can get them cheap..but hell no on EBAY..You have GOLD if you have one of those old amps...I saw one of those POWER1000 chrome amps gor for $1500 new in box..Power650's also..What do you expect..In a Recent Audio Magazine Article the Power650 was rated "#1 The greatest Amp ever made"..I believe it..those thing are still the BOMB!!!
