Ok quick question...

I have a 2000 ***** am, with stock electrical system except for my yellow top. I am going to be running a JBL gto1201.1 mono amp for the sub, and a jbl px300.4 for the component set. If you go by the rule that my good ole physics teacher taught me, watts=(volts x amps). Ok so my total rms wattage at any time is going to be about 1850 OR so, that is what we will say for the time being. Alrighty, my total watt value is now set for 1850, my desired voltage going to these here amps will be lets say, 14 volts, ok. We now have watts and volts. If we do a little figuring, the amps needed will be equal to the watts/volts. 1850/14=~132A. Most of you already know this, now we get to my question. I am going to buy a 200A alternator, little upgrade over stock. I currently have 4ag power running the amps. Should I bump it up to 2 or even 0, or with under 2000 watts will it not make that much of a difference? I am done now, please help me out! lol thanks

run 1/0 awg to the back, and split it with a distro. Do the big 3 under the hood, and you ought not have to get an h/o alty. If worse comes to worse, put a second battery in the trunk. It's a hell of a lot cheaper than a new alt. And skip caps. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Ok...With the impedance rises you will be seeing. You wont get the full power out of those amps. But to give yourself head room. I would definatly run 1/0 gauge power wire to the rear, and then into a distrobution block with 4 ga. running to the amps.
is this inevitable? if not, how do I get full power out of my amps? Please elaborate

Yes impedance rise in inevitable. For one music is dynamic and with a DMM set to ac Voltage you can see this if you connect it to the speaker leads off of the amplifier. There are ways you can minimalize impedance rise..with box designs, and keeping the coils cool. But usually steps this extreme usually only apply to the Serious SPL competitor. You wont hear the difference, im just letting you know. Also, you are assuming that your amps are 100% efficient by your calculations...turning the input into output with no loss...that is not what happens in the real world. Most amps are 80% efficient (class D anyways) So you will lose some current to heat and waste. Trust me you will be fine. Just run the 1/0 cable and get your HO alt.
