Ohms

I noticed Alpine has 2 different kinds of Type R 15's. One is 2 OHM's and the other is 4. Which is better for quality sound? Also, does anyone know if these work well in a ported box? Or is there something else I should be looking at in the 200 dollar price range?

I don't know what it is... But when I buy a sub and amp i'd like to stick with the same brand. I just purchased a Alpine headunit, the CDA-9886 it looks pretty decent. Could someone give me some thoughts on alphine subs and amps that I should go with or possibly something just as good?

At first I was in the 500 dollar range, but realized that might be a bit too much. I see a lot of people on here really know what they are talking about, just wanna get the advice before I just drop down the cash on something I shouldnt have.

do a search on ohms. it really has nothing to do with sound quality. its simply a wiring option to best match your subs to an amp.

Stick with the subs you're talking about. Find yourself an amp that you like and can afford. Determine that amps max output and at what ohm load it is at. If the max load is 1 or 4 ohms, choose the DVC 4 ohms. If the max load is 2 ohms choose the DVC 2 ohms. This only works if you buy 2. The math changes with the quantity.

Whoa. That word "max" is iffy. Please refrain from using it.

Hmm... Can anyone recommend a good AMP or good brand names?

Yeah, screw goin to the forums, where you can talk to people with experiance, just google it. Wait what?

You should lose the signature.........

He gave you a short and sweet about your question regarding the sound quality of different ohm loads. A forum isn't to spoon feed you every bit of information that's easily available by simply using the search tool.

There are much better tutorials out there on impedance than we could write here in a short period of time //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

x2

op: impedance is referring to the resistance of current flow from resistors, inductors and capacitors... if you are too lazy to search it. but you will want to if you plan on understanding the concept. because as jim said. there are tutorials already out there.

Hmm... I suppose things go different around here. In the forums I mainly use (Which I have well over 7000 posts) I have learned a lot by asking. After around 2000 posts I started giving back and helping people troubleshoot their PC issues. Seeing people say "Just google it" always pissed me off because it was on there cause they do not understand as well. People on here have become too lazy to help the beginners it seems.

Well like they always say, it's easier to find information when you're wading through 5 feet of $hit. Right? It does seem to make more sense to have 300 threads about the same exact thing. That way if someone does decides to be resourceful they can shuffle through hundreds and hundreds of threads to find their answers rather than having more valuable singular threads. I apologize for our laziness in not providing answers over and over again and making you use the search button.

Configuring voice coils to achieve a target impedance can affect sound quality in a sneaky way. Using the coils separately will give you a different Qes value than if you use them in series or parallel. If you change Qes, then you have also changed Qts which will affect enclosure requirements.

I would atleast give that person a link to the thread providing them with the answer. Eventhough I highly doubt a thread is going to have my questions. It was more than asking about Ohm's. I was wondering what kind of sub/amp people would recommend picking up under a certain price.
