ohms? stable ?

ok ive been looking at the kicker kx2500, it says its 2 ohm stable but some people have been asking if it will take a 1 ohm load... i always thought that if a amp was stable at a certain ohm that it will never drop below that, just rest at what its stable at....... if thats so then puttin a 1 ohm load to a 2 ohm stable amp wouldnt hurt it b/c its designed for it isnt it ???? thanks for the input, im just a lil confused

Welcome to the world of underratings. That amp is built well enough that it can handle a 1 ohm load. However you probably won't get much more power out of it.

no, this is incorrect. basically its just like plugging things into a wall outlet. plug in one power saw, fine. plug in a heater at the same time, ok. plug in a fridge and suddenly the fuse blows and everything stops working!

with the amp, plug in a 4ohm woofer and the amp works fine. put another 4ohm woofer in parallel (current now can flow through either woofer, so reistance is 4/2 = 2ohm), fine. 1 more woofer in parallel (4/3 = 1.33ohms) and you risk damage to the amp.

realistically the amp will work, at least for a while, at 1.33 ohm. this is more true of overbuilt, conservatively rated amplifiers. putting in another woofer (4/4 = 1ohm) would be pushing things a bit.
