ohio keeps trying to legalize gambling

over and over again there are votes on issues for legalizing gambling in ohio, particularly southern ohio, the poorest part of the state. I'm not for it. YEah it'll create a few jobs, but it will also bring about more poor/disenfranchised people to the state as well. Especially with the casinos being in a part of the state where education is subpar (its darn near appalachian living in that part of the state) and people would not know how to gamble responsibly.

Another appeal that those for the legislation bring up is the fact that ohioans spend approximately a billion dollars out of state on gambling. While this may be true, that gambling money isn't going to go to the state, its going to go to private businesses. They claim the casinos will earmark a certain percentage of money for public schools, but they said the same about the state lottery (which does pretty well on its own) and the schools barely get a whif of that money. the whole thing just leaves a bad stench in my nose

I dont think it will make much of a difference, there are casinos in pretty much every state surrounding ohio. If someone wants to gamble they only have to drive 2 hours, so why not let those people lose their money in ohio?

its a "don't **** our land" kind of problem that I'm dealing with regarding this bill. People in southeastern ohio think casinos will change the economic climate in the area, but it won't. The majority of the residents will still be poor, the education system will still ****. So I don't see the greatness of the issue (considering it is up for vote every year, sometimes multiple times in a year).

I'm for it mainly because of the money that the surrounding states collect from our residents go towards taxes in those states. Why not use that money as a partial stopgap for our ailing budget?
