Half of a game? Hmm. I wonder why he doesn't get a more sever punishment? I mean heck Blount got suspended for the year and this guy only gets 1/2 a game. He wasn't even being taunted and they were winning, that was just a straight up dirty eye gouge. It was as bad if not worse than the punch IMO.
I agree, he should have had to sit out at least 2-3games

Yeah, d@mn this really sucks. I can't figure how long the suspension should be. I mean, the dude could actually be blinded from that. That was pretty effed up. All because Spikes was I guess getting the guy back for his hair being pulled.

At first I didn't buy into the Florida/Bama favoritism, but now I have to wonder. As of this week in the SEC if you verbally criticize an official to the media the coach gets suspended (mainly geared towards Kiffin and his comments). If a player physically assaults an opposing player he has to sit a 1/2 a game. Weird how these things play out. It should be a full game at least.

The SEC office announced that it had strengthened the penalties handed out to coaches who publicly criticize officials. The league’s 12 athletic directors unanimously voted to hand out suspensions and fines to any coach who violates SEC Bylaw 10.5.4. The length of the suspension and amount of the fine is solely up to the discretion of SEC Commissioner Mike Slive.
“That should have been a penalty, in my opinion.” “You’ve got to protect quarterbacks. That’s the whole purpose. It’s right in front of the referee.”
Referring to Georgia linebacker Nick Williams for an unnecessary hit on quarterback Tim Tebow during UF’s 41-17 victory last Saturday.
Well hmm. Time to man up Mike Slive.

Meh, I dunno, not too overly critical anyway. Judgment call.

If they can't see anything like this, what can they even talk about. It's already at the point where nobody but maybe Spurrier and Bobby Bowden say anything unusual and worth hearing.

This is gonna help turn 'em all into robots nobody wants to hear anyway. "Gotta bring our A game." "Gotta play good in all three facets of the game." "We didn't play well." Blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah ...

It doesn't matter how overly critical it is. This falls exactly under the new rule (public criticism of the officiating). It's exactly why 3 coaches got reprimands this year. They basically said the same thing about missed penalties or unnecessary penalties. Part of Petrinos criticism was a non-call on a late hit, I'll jog your memory that he received a reprimand.

Dude, Kiffin. The man has a mouth. This rule should be called "Bylaw Kiffin" instead of Bylaw 10.5.4.

You can blame Mike Slive for this. He's the one making up the rules and dishing out reprimands. It's time to enforce the rule on the coach/team that Slive has been accused of protecting over and over.

SEC fines Meyer $30,000

Florida coach Urban Meyer has been fined $30,000 by the Southeastern Conference for public comments about a call he said officials missed during last week's game against Georgia, the conference announced Friday
I guess Slive ain't playin around. 2nd largest fine in SEC history. While it doesn't piss me off that Meyer got fined. The rule is total bullshit to begin with.

What about free speech?

Are the refs so darn sensitive that they can't handle somebody second guessing them?

What exactly is Slive protecting?
