No but their whole offense is based around the fast break. They have never been a "play" oriented team. If he cant run, what are they gonna take on 5 defenders with 4 offensive players?

How many times in a fast break do you see 5 players running down the court? You outlet to Nash and get a 3 on 2 break or a 2 on 2 and beat your defender down the court or create a mismatch and exploit it. You rarely see all 5 players running down the court at the same time, and if you start the fast break, you rarely get all 5 defenders back on defense.

Ok maybe fast break wasnt the right choice of words on my part since you cant always run it. But regardless they cant push the ball like they used to. Is that better?

Why can't they? All they have to do is beat their defender down the court, and what has their running style won them? Nothing. Look at all the former champs. San Antonio had Duncan, Miami had Shaq, Los Angeles had Shaq, Detroit didn't have that dominate interior scorer but they had Ben Wallace who was dominate defensively. Chicago had Jordan so they are the exception. Houston had Olajawon, Then you had the bad boys who again were tough on interior defense. Hell the showtime Lakers had Kareem.

So you can consistently beat a team down court? I never said they were great, never said they were gonna win. Phoenix has Shaq too but yes even with him their defense is shit.

Shaq isn't the same defender he was. In fact he never really was an all-NBA defender. Phoenix has some bad perimeter defense. Amare is actually their best shot blocker and when their guards get beat consistently off the dribble Amare and Shaq have to help out.

With or without Shaq you can't consistently beat a team down the court. If you keep giving up dribble penetration and allow your opponent to shoot over 50%, it'll be tough to run consistently.

icetee, barry would have been a good fit for the suns. see they needed a slashing, streaky shooter, with good handles. barry could have filled the marion position as well as provide a good defensive player/ball handler while nash got rest time. rest time for nash is key for phoenix and to be honest with you i have no clue why they didnt work a deal for delonte west and szerbiak or better yet delonte and thomas. all these teams went around looking for the next big thing to outdo the spurs. its not gonna happen. i said it before and i will say it again, thomas was the best aquisition of any team in the league

Even right now they are trying to run a 3 on 4 fastbreak. Denver is getting back on defense and shutting them down. You are right you cant win giving up 110 points a game.

Phoenix isn't going to win with shooters and slashers and no interior presence. It just doesn't happen in the NBA.

Perhaps they should've went after Ben Wallace. he can defensive rebound, block shots and is athletic enough to run the floor like everybody expects a center to do these days. Always with all these shots Phoenix shoots, he would be great grabbing offensive boards.

How can you really say Thomas is a better acquisition than Gasol? You must really have the Spurs blinders on.

Thomas makes a great team better. Gasol made a good team great.

The Gasol move was pretty good. Especially since the Lakers didn't have to give up anyone good. Memphis did however get a lot of expiring contracts.
