Its not really a scam, McDonalds acknowledged how they operate that game many years ago. Most game pieces are extremely common, they only hold back one type of piece needed to win each prize. Those designated pieces are distributed in a more controlled way, not by controlling where/to whom the pieces go to, but they control how many of those pieces are released, and when they are released. Everyone who is playing and saved up all but one piece to win each prize, needs the same pieces.

You cant blame them for running it this way. They have to have control over their total budget for paying out winners. For the $1million prize, they probably release one winning piece at a time and wait a while to see if it hits before deciding to release another. If they just put out 10 randomly, they might end up paying out $0, and they might end up paying out $10million.

I suspect you already know this Mitch, and was being sarcastic. I dont quote you to imply otherwise. I just quoted you because you brought the point up. It was pretty common knowledge back when this game was (fairly) new, but I dont know if the younger guys here know how the game operates.
