Odometer reset!

I know a lot of you will think it's a waste of money, but I was wondering what's required to legally have the miles set to 0? I always thought it was a new engine, but not sure what would have to replaced and what paperwork (if any) would be required to "start fresh".

EDIT: After some looking up I found it's considered fraud... there's no way to do it legally?

No way to do that.

Even if you replaced every part of your car with brand new, the VIN will remain the same. Same goes for rolling the Odometer. Legaly anyway. No matter what paperwork you have, can you emagine the potential for fraud?

I would invest my money in something else...//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

you could buy a new gauge setup form a new car and plug it in and it will read zero. many people do this with old cars and put salavage car gauge clusters that have less miles on them.

Not that I am aware of. Even if you replaced the motor, the transmission, the suspension parts, etc etc etc the vehicle's chassis will still have however many miles shown by the odometer. If you were to invest in replacing everything...including the frame and the body....you'd have saved money by just buying a new car altogether.
Why are you wanting to roll the odometer back anyway? If you're going to replace the drivetrain you can just get some documentation showing that the engine, ******, whatever got replaced at XXX.X miles and that should satisfy any potential future buyer.

Well, I've been shelling out tons of money for my car... everyone says "sick car dude" and ask how many miles on it... and I have to tell him it's over 100,000...

I was thinking if/when the car ever went that I'd have some money saved for a new engine (a place is selling a new engine [better than OEM, made for my car, and with performance mods] for $2,500). I always grew up thinking the engine was what the miles were for... but for $2,500 I'd pay to have it legally reset to 0.

Guess it's a stupid reason to/stupid idea, I should spend this money on a new car so when this one goes I can afford it. Thanks for the advice.

My '95 has 170K+ and still going strong!

The engine isn't the only component on the car that the overall mileage is for. The engine is by far NOT the only part of a car that wears out. So - even if you shell out $2.5K for a new engine it will still be backed by a ****** with 100K+ on it being held up by a suspension with 100K+ on it surrounded by a body and chassis with 100K+ on it ...etc etc etc

Heaps more parts to a car than only the motor //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

oh you are fine...my 2000 just rolled over 92k...now as for the odo...its not legal at all. if you get a new motor, just keep the reciepts. if anyone asks..."body has 100+ and the motor i just put in has 60k."

My 95 F-150 has 60,000 miles on the truck, dumbass before me ran it too hot, so now it only has 1,500 miles on the engine. But still saying my actual truck has 60,000 miles but the engine only has 1,500 sounds good to me //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif For a 95 anyways.

91 talon tsi -156 thousand on chassi 1,471 on rebuilt racing motor

91 caprice lowrider-115 thousand

99 ranger only 60 thousand

i have put several new rebuilt motors in cars if you order tha motor\

write the milege on the car when new engine was installed on the reipt for the engine

i keep a log for my cars for oil changes new parts etc.

i wrote the milage when the engine was installed in my log

100,000 isn't to much for your first car. Mine had 127,000 miles on it, but anyways if a buyer is seriously interested and you have receipts stating it was changed at X amount of miles you'll be fine selling it.
