octoport area

i will be building some flared octoports out of 16 gauge mild steel and was wondering the formula? im guessing the ID is around 10% more than a than a square port of the desired sq in- and 10% less than a circles diameter of desired are. any thoughts?

ive asked a few box builders and they say just pretend its a circle (aero port).

yah? so port length would be the same with a 8" round port and a 8" octo?
