So I’m in the process of upgrading the sound in my CX5 from the Polk DXI 6500 component set that I installed in this car back in 2014 to the NVX XSP65 mid woofers and Massive Audio CT 2 tweeters from the Morel MTD-12 tweeters that I’ve been listening to for a year. The Stinger Fast Ring set you see cut up I used to make a rain guard to protect the open coil of the NVX woofer and some Gorilla tape to make the foam a little more water proof. It’s crude but effective. The woofer is mounted to the hogged out stock speaker basket, which helps keep the large magnet away from the window and the woofer aligned with the door panel. It’s also wrapped in Second Skin butyl CLD, which got a little scrapped up when I used a grinder to flatten the opening for the slightly larger NVX woofer. Next will be some snapshots from REW of their FR as they are with no EQ. My initial impression is they are not a big upgrade from the Polk and the upper midrange has a hole in it. Those NVX mid woofers are very similar to the SB Acoustics SB17NRXC35-4, 6.5" Woofer but NVX gave them a slightly higher qts and 10 watts less RMS power handling probably due to being near infinite baffle.
