Anyone heard of this or have a laptop that has been affected by it? My HP laptop died recently from this.

For those that don't know there were many Nvidia GPUs that were defective due to the solder bumps on the chips. The defect causes your laptop to have different issues and eventually kills it.

Have you tried updating the drivers?
Bad GPU = my laptop won't even start .... The motherboard needs to be replaced to fix it.

Complain to HP and youll get a new lappy. just make sure there is documentation for your chipset
HP wants $400 to replace the motherboard. I thought it was ridiculous since it was an iherent defect so I filed a claim in small claims court. My court date is in a few weeks. Others have sued successfully so I do have a shot to win or at least settle.

What model was the laptop? With the DV6 series the AMD CPU and the NVIDIA integrated GPU had overheating issues due to this and being mobile parts arent supposed to be up to task for this. They had a lawsuit awhile back depending on your model.
It is a dv6500t. HP had a limited warranty where they would fix the models with the AMD board for free. Many other people have had the same problem with the intel board which is what mine has in it but they won't fix it for free.
