nvidia 6800gt vs. 7800gt

If you have the $500 to put out for a solid 7800GTX, I don't see where the $125 difference would even matter. I personally would get the 6800 and put the extra money towards a better monitor or sound card. Like Jmac said, give it some time and see if their price drops.

Oh, and in the same light I paid $125 for my AGP GF6200 that I softmodded into a vanilla 6600. It's an amazing card, I can't even imagine a PCI-E 7800GTX.

Video card companies come out with a new line almost every 6 months. It will always be cheaper if you wait a few months. Don't ever go with the newest card, there is such a huge depreciation on new cards that it just isn't ever worth it. The 6800 gt can be had for just over $200 while the 7800 GTX is around $400. I can guarantee the 7800 won't be twice as fast.

It also seems that game makers are making the move towards more video memory intensive programs, as well as windows vista. I would definitely look at getting with at least 256 megs of video memory. It's not the only thing that makes the card fast, but it will sure help.

Good luck.

and while we are on the tech bend here, anybody realy happy with their mp3 player, the little portable ones, looking to get one maybe like 512mb - 1gb, somewhere in the 100 ball park. And before anyone mentions it i don't want an ipod shuffle, i want to be able to make playlists and see my song title. thanx
