Note to self.....make sure box will fit through trunk before build...

I'm sorry if i come off sounding like an *******. The risk is still there they'll get bit. I watch the feeding process as closely mainly for this reason. If it's head or legs are free to scratch/bit the snake durring constriction i have something ready to let the rat bite into or scratch instead of the snake. If the heads free i'll use aplastic bottle cap and if the legs are free i use a piece of cardboard and put it between the feet and the snake. It's a risk im willing to take for the sake of entertainment, and letting the snakes kill. I keep the feeding in the feeding bucket and i handle them frequently as possible. Big one's never bit. She likes to hiss first if she's pissed off for whatever odd reason....

BTW bobby i'd love to see pics of your babies //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif espically the big mofo.

I got rid of most of them several years ago when my daughter was born, including the 150 pound burmese python. that was before I had a digital camera so I don't have any pictures. All I have now is an albino burmese about 10 feet long and a desert rosy boa that's about full grown at a whopping 18 inches long or so. I'll try to get some pics tomorrow. I wasn't trying to be rude, but I actually lost a beautiful Brazillian rainbow boa from a rat bite when I was still new to snakekeeping. One bite right through the brain and it was all over.

I'm glad you got your box in, who cares if it's ugly.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Lightening strikes do happen, and it's terribly unfortunate that happened. MIstakes happen man. The other red tail i have is about 3.5ft long and still pretty small and shy. Only way to get her to eat would be to leave he rin the feeding container with the rodent in a shaded or dark area for a while and maybe in a hour or 2 she'll take it. Left her overnight with a large rat to find the rat has eaten 2 huge areas of skin off her back, then later chewed on the wire for the heat pad in there and electricuted itself.

The wounds on the snake were about 1in x 3 inch long in 2 differant spots RIGHT in her beautiful red tail (head was tucked in hiding). Rat had chewed through the scales, through the next layer of skin, and into the muscle leaving the muscle torn and exposed. You could just slightly see the white outlines of her ribs through the muscle that was left. Naturally the next hour of of accessing the situation was rough, but i didn what i could by calling vets and doing some online research. Best thing i could do is sterilize the wound regularly with antiseptics and keep ointment on the wounds. Bandageing was difficult/near impossible because she'd get out of it eventually. But after a few weeks i just ditched the bandaid and just kept her with plenty of ointment and a clean cage. 4 months later the wounds sealed up with new skin. Now about 7 or so months later new scales are almost starting to form, and she's getting color now into the regrown skin that grew in white. She wouldnt eat for about 2 months when she finally after a few tries with prekilled she started eating again. Then about 5 months after the attack she was back to live medium rats. Before the attack she would take large ones down, but im keeping her at mudiums until she gets a lil bigger. I swear it was bad enough i was almost sure she was going to die of an infection, but i managed to save its life //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
