Not impressed

you can pad tweeters with a resistor network, similar to what comes in nicer component sets.

i agree that your best bet is a 6.5 component set up front, like a matching C2 comp set.

oval speakers can sound good when that's the goal. Hertz HCX 690 sound fantastic (but cost >$400).

I appreciate all the input. I think I'll try changing the tweeter first with a new crossover. I may wind up getting another amp for the rear doors and bi amping the front. Other than the overly harsh highs, it sounds amazing. The 12tw3 is fantastic. I've got it in a ported box under my back seat. It was actually cheaper to buy a well made shallow speaker than it would have been to raise the back seat. Super impressed with the sub and c2s in the back. I'm gonna give it a week or so trying to make some adjustments then make a decision. Thanks again fellas.

Don't need a CNC made adapters to make "baffles" for the speakers. Any average joe can do so. I've done it many times out of scrap wood laying around and a jigsaw and/or table saw. A router if you want perfectness. But since it's gonna be hidden, it wouldn't matter if it's perfect or not unless your a hardcore competitor going for that maximum points.

Well. I can't do much right now. I herniated 2 disks in my lower back at work. So doing anything completely on my own is **** near impossible.

Yeah that puts a burden on things and changes a bit huh lol. ***** to hear that. I know your limited on things to do. I'll need cataract surgery soon and I'll be out of work for about 3-4 days when that time comes.

In that case, if you know someone willing to make you a pair, would be another idea. Otherwise, guess buying would be the next option. Just tryin to help ya out man.

I appreciate it. I've built countless baffles. I used to work in a shop in k town Germany when I got out of the army back in 2003. Now my time is a little more precious to me. There's a guy in college station that runs mobile toys named chris. He's an amazing installer and his prices reflect it. He's expensive but you definitely get the best of the best.

Wat? Any source on this little tidbit of wisdom?

Eclipse isn't what it used to be I suspect. AFAIK Tang Band makes a pretty stout 6X9 woofer and if you could active crossover into a large format tweeter you might do OK. Otherwise mids and highs comes down to personal preference and largely aiming and location.
last i knew, eclipse was dead, so id say youre right lol

They are exclusive to audiophiles lol.. JK, they are on partsexpress and madisound. Basically where you can put together your own component set. They have frequency testing data and a lot more rather than just RMS numbers. The overall quality is a lot higher and sound is a lot richer, detailed and smoother than mainstream off the shelf products.

So if I get these tweeters, are they going to sound okay mounted on the a pillar or do they need to be closer to the driver?

You have experience with these? Can they be mounted off axis on the a pillar and sound good? I've got a dd 8 inch sub and that little thing rocks.

Coming from the biggest DD fanboy. The speakers are just ok until you get to the audiophile series and those are just ok in that aspect. The Pro Audio stuff is good if you like that sort of thing.

I don't really want to get into custom a pillars is my thing. I just want a **** good sounding tweeter that will last a while. And when I get drunk and wanna jam at the river I won't blow them up with a little abuse.

Aside from that, do you have any recommendations? I've been out of the audio world since I got back from Germany in 2005. I talked to a guy here and he wants me to buy the focal components and replace the eclipse. I don't think my eclipse mid range sounds bad at all and don't really wanna spend another 400 bucks.
