Not Again...

I have a Soundstream Van Gogh 800.2 amp. I was cleaning up some wires in my car today. And when I wen to go turn it on my SS amp wasn't turning on at all. I switched out power/ground/REM wire from my other amp to see if it would work. No luck there. All the wires are fine but my amp isn't turning on at all.

I decided to take it apart to see if there is anything wrong with it. Everything was seemed fine with it until I came to this part.

Is there anyway I could fix it? Can I send it to Soundstream and have it repaired? Is there any dealers that could fix this that is located in the Sacramento area? How much would it be?

Wonder why it did that? Reverse polarity maybe? Would have figured it would have burned up the protection diodes rather than burn the trace in half. Is that the Ground or Positive connection? If it is the positive then it may have shorted with the screw that holds the board in place on the heatsink via that hole right next to the burn mark. If it's the negative then someone had their + and - wires backwards on the amp I am thinking... and the protection diodes were so strong they didn't blow or blow the fuses, so you burned the circuit board trace in half... Doesn't really look like a mechanical stress crack... maybe a higher res pic would be good.

if you dont have a warranty you could try and get some solder and bridge that. maybe get a small piece of copper and put it over the gap and then solder it on.

thats what i would do.

I would solder a small 18 to 20 gauge wire to bridge it at first to test the amp out. Something that will burn up, just incase you have a short further downstream in the electronics.
Indeed... When ever you have something major like that go up you want to move with caution. There probably is nothing else up stream wrong but you are much better safe than sorry... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

Put a penny on it and tig weld it. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Sorry. It sounded funny when i thought of it.

Sorry to hear about your bad luck. Hope you can fix it.

You would think the fuse would go, but it really doesn't take much to burn a trace in half. Just a quick steady 100amps or so would do it....
