Noobs Db Guide

alright if i see another thread asking if a pair of this or that will hit 150 or higher ....noobs go look at this and SEE HOW LOUD 150 db's is like !!!

The decibel (abbreviated dB) is the unit used to measure the intensity of a sound. The decibel scale is a little odd because the human ear is incredibly sensitive. Your ears can hear everything from your fingertip brushing lightly over your skin to a loud jet engine. In terms of power, the sound of the jet engine is about 1,000,000,000,000 times more powerful than the smallest audible sound. That's a big difference!

On the decibel scale, the smallest audible sound (near total silence) is 0 dB. A sound 10 times more powerful is 10 dB. A sound 100 times more powerful than near total silence is 20 dB. A sound 1,000 times more powerful than near total silence is 30 dB. Here are some common sounds and their decibel ratings:

Near total silence - 0 dB

A whisper - 15 dB

Normal conversation - 60 dB

A lawnmower - 90 dB

A car horn - 110 dB

A rock concert or a jet engine - 120 dB

A gunshot or firecracker - 140 dB

thanks now you can STFU about DB SH#T

And to add a little more for those who want the extreme loudness and nothing more, prolonged exposure to ~84dB is considered dangerous, and can quickly cause hearing degeneration. Think about this next time you're riding down the street bumping so hard you cannot hear yourself humm.

do you guyz tink my MT willz hits a 180 playing some mike jones?i really wants to blow my peeps headz off when dey sit in the truck because of da basz wills be so LoUd and phat nazty krazi, i just wish i kould rides dawn za road and makes peoplez earz blead because da bass would be so loud, i want teh wittle children and animals to sufferz and windows to brakez because my base is soooo loudizzle

Pull that out of your ***? lol

I think those figures are off //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif And I'm pretty **** sure a jet engine is louder than 120, along with a rock concert. And you left out the threshold for pain, which is 125db.....so you would've said it as what, 100? lmao.

No, just about any common phsyics textbook will give you similar values when discussing decibels, I've seen those numbers thown around alot. One thing people forget to take into consideration is the fact that people don't hear sounds of equal intensity as being equally loud, unless they are very similar in frequency. A rock concert produces 120db of TREBLE. Your ears are less sensitive to lower frequencies. To make bass sound just as loud as that concert, you need the bass to mearsure around 150db. Dont' believe me, find someone with horns, listen to 120 db of sounds centered around 3k or so. 100db should be quite painful. I'll thow a bit more technical information into this thread, the Fletcher Munson curves. They graph the frequency phenomenon I explained earlier.
