Noob Question

Hello everyone, first post. Getting back into car audio after being dormant for some time now. Had the same system for 6 years, but am looking to change it up. Put my current system in my car when i was 19, not understanding anything about watts and ohms and such. I want to keep my current amp, and best buy has a deal going right now on 2 kicker 10" Comps buy one get one, $89. My amp is an MTX Thunder 251D. Its rated at 200rms at 2 OHMs, and the subs are RMS 150 4 OHMs, 300 Max. Will my amp be too much? Also, will this be any louder than my current setup? I'm also getting a new head unit, JVC of some kind. I've had the stock head unit in my Suzuki as well. Hoping to learn a lot from this community. Thanx guys/gals!!! (feel free to move this thread if needed, wasn't sure where to post)

are you saying buy one get the 2nd free or get the 2nd $89?

if your amp RMS' at 200 watts and you will be powering 2 subwoofers, each sub will in turn receive 100 watts. Which is only 50 watts less than the RMS. your amp should be fine. what is your current system?

I personally have had kicker all of my life. Started with kicker CVR, which is only $30 more for 200+ watts than the comp. I'm not sure what the MTX's are RMSing, but I know kickers are good. But $89 for some that RMS at 200 is a good deal. What kind of system are you looking for? Lows mids or highs?

The comps wouldn't hit the lows quite as well as the CVR's

My current system consists of 2 kicker 12" L7's for my lows and 2 kicker 10" Cvr for my mids and highs

Not looking to go to crazy. My current subs are starting to crackle really bad, which i'm assuming indicates they're going. I listen to a lot of rock (ACDC) and some occasional hip hop/R&B. They should be just as good as my current setup at the least i'm hoping, which is more than fine. Keep my lil hatch hoppin.

I understand. Well your amp will power each of those subs with 100 watts which will sound pretty good with rock. I myself listen to everything from country to rap so I know what sounds good lol.

Its like watching a pair of monkeys trying to F a football.

My advice is to upgrade your amp and subs. 100wrms is not all that much for each sub.

Best Buy is not the best place to get electronics. Its overpriced, highly marketed stuff.

Much better products out there for the money than Kicker.

Are you running a sealed or a ported box? With Rock being your most listened to genre of music, sealed is probably your best bet.

Well you are already looking to upgrade your current system, so I assumed you were looking to get a little louder and/or sound a little better. But if you are happy with the loudness, then you are right, no point. It's your stereo. The Kicker's probably wouldnt be a bad choice for you then.

Hope i didn't sound dickish, I do appreciate the input. But yeah, i've looked at all the options, and really don't want any more loudness right now. Maybe in the future, but i think those days are behind me. But once you've had boom boom in your car, ya've always gotta have at least a bit. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

No, not at all. I didnt take it that way in the slightest bit.

RE Audio REx's would give you a little bit of room for a future upgrade. Rated for 300wrms.

Just another sub to throw in the mix.
