Hey guys - I'm having a strange issue with noise from a phone dock I want to use. I'm going to try to be thorough with my explanation below but the situation is pretty straightforward.
Issue: This is a car dock for an android phone (see "Hardware below). It connects to the phone just via a micro-usb plug, but in the back of the dock it splits into a separate 1/4" audio input & and separate micro-usb input (for power). So the idea is you can both charge and run music through your stereo with a single connection to the phone. When I connect in this way and play music all is good, but when there is no sound output it starts to go cazy...rapid low clicks like someone doing morse code on speed. It doesn't do this at quiet parts of the music, only between songs when the phone stops transmitting any sound or when I pause.
Tests done:
1) In my car I've tried bypassing the dock by plugging the power directly into the phone micro-usb and a separate 1/4" audio directly into the audio jack of the phone. In this configuration, there is none of the noise mentioned above.
2) I've tested the dock outside of the car. I plugged a usb cable into a computer and the other end went into the micro-usb of the dock (for power). Then, I plugged a 1/4" speaker line in to the 1/4" input on the dock. I then connected my phone to the dock and it had power and created none of the noise mentioned above.

-Phone Dock: Samsung SGH-i777
-Vehicle: '06 Lotus Elise
Experience level: Beginner - I installed the stereo system myself but my audio knowledge is just from the experience of a few projects.
