No RCA output

I had no output on my amplifier, so I checked the RCA's and they have no voltage... I pulled out the headunit and used the DMM on the preouts and got nothing but a .002v output, and I am guessing this means its blown?

Is my only option to take it somewhere to be serviced, or could I hook the RCA's to another pair of preouts?

Did you use a test tone cd while checking voltage. Voltage output at full volume is not constant. It is deependant on what frequency is being played. Place a 80 htz test tone on repeat and give it another try. If you still get nothing then your preouts may be gone. when preouts burn up, it is normaly one channel. since your subs are dual you should still have the other channel.

I was using a 35Hz test tone, but I'll give 80 a shot.

And when you said its normally one channel that only burns up, does that mean I can still use the working preout? And if so, will I consequently have half the output due to have of the input signal, or is that not how it works?

Okay so I ended up not getting anywhere with reading voltage on the RCA's, so I decided I will just take it up to CC (I have a warrenty for the HU through them.) I ended up installing my new set up, in sig, so that I could have it all ready for when my HU got fixed...

Well I installed the sub and the amp and...it worked! After about 15 minutes I blew my 60A fuse, so I had to go to CC today and get an ANL fuse holder and 150A fuse. I went home and installed the fuse holder, and I was excited... No output on the amp at all, it has power but no output, same as my previous amp so it must be something with the HU or an intermediate connection.

I checked EVERYTHING. I replaced the RCA's yesterday, which was when the amp worked. Is it possible that my HU is continually frying my RCA cables? Or could these Wal-Mart RCA's just be junk?....

Someone give me SOMETHING, this shit sucks.

I ended up making an appointment with CC though, for Thursday. Any help until then is appreciated though //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Also, is there a way to check to see if a pair of RCA's are in working condition?

I'm baffled

If you have a portable cd player or mp3 player and one of those pin to rca adapter cords you could hook up the cd/mp3 player to the subs RCA inputs and see if the amp works. This could possibly eliminate the deck from the list of problems.

If the RCA line from the dash to the trunk is crimped and shorting on the chassis it could cause similar problems.

i had a 500/1 go bad on me. it would power up but no output.
The reason I dont believe the amp is the problem is because this is now the second amp this has happened to.

And Stones, someone reccomended the RCA to headphone cable to me the other day, I am going to replace my RCA's and see what happens, then if there is still not output I will pick up that cable...

Okay I got the headphone thing, but my **** portable CD player wont work... Old POS.... Would a portable DVD player suffice?

Also, my REM wire suddenly crapped out on the HU, could the HU just be slowly dieing..?

Anyone know if I can just bring my HU in to Circuit City, or do they need the entire vehicle?

I have a warrenty with CC for it.

But I just hooked up my portable DVD to the amp and there was no output, but I was getting a voltage from the RCA's from it so I am assuming I have an amp problem, as well as a HU problem. I am going to swap out my brothers Audiobahn amp for mine just to see if it works.
