No power in car at all

Okay, so here is the backstory. I was driving my car, and suddenly my car just turns off, no power (thankfully I was really close to home) at all. Car just slow to a stop. I try jumping the battery, and nothing. I thought my battery was just fried. I checked it with my DMM and I got 0 volts. So I figured I needed a new battery, so I went and bought an optima yellow top. It's resting in there now, all connected, and yet I still have no power in my car at all.

No lights, hazards won't go on, car doesn't crank, no power doors locks, trunk button doesn't open the trunk, etc. I'm now thinking maybe a fuse is blown? I don't think it's a problem with my alternator as I would still have power with the battery. So I need some help/suggestions. I DO have a DMM, so is there anything I can test for with that that might help out?

Also, a couple nights ago when I was driving home (much father from my house...) my car does the same thing. I lose power, roll for a bit, but then it turned on again 5-10 seconds later. This second time now however, it didn't turn on again.

Thanks for any help

also check all your battery power wires and grounds. They might be corroded where you can't see them. I had the same problems with a truck i had years ago and it ended up being the cables.

I'd bet it is a loose ground or main positive wire issue. I'd look at all grounds from the bat first. If your car's alt grounds to the main electrical components through the bat, then when your bat loses its ground, you have no power to any electricals and your car cuts off.

It was a shitty wire going to the fuse box, everything is okay now, and I even get to return the $200 yellow top. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif
