No head unit.

would there be any loss in sound quality if i didn't use a head unit.... here what i mean.

i have 2 amps.

2-channel for speakers and mono d class for subs. the 2 channel has RCA's in's and outs. right now my rear channel off the head unit is to the subs and front channel is to the speakers (i have no speakers in my rear doors). now on the 2 channel (and every amp i owned) there is RCS in and out. ive never used the out becasue i never saw a point but i thought of one. now what if i ran the RCA from the In on the 2 channel amp up to the glove box and then put a TRS connector on it. then used the out on the 2 channel amp for the mono amp. and then just pluged the TRS into a ipod. and bam no head unit needed.

I've thought about it, only thing would be the possible need for a line driver, as I don't see an ipod or such as having a high preout voltage, but thats about it I think.

And, would have to run a remote from your ignition but no biggie

line drivers also distort signals a bit...

you can get a HU that will have all the options you need for 79 bucks, and you have am/fm radio, it just makes more sense to use a HU

i would rather not down grade my head unit if this cant be done easy. just keep the set up i have now.

if your talkin about just using an ipod as a source then ya your biggest problem is the preout voltage but you can use teh out going to the sub amp but then you also have to figure about equalization and xover controls does it have it?

I havn't had a ipod but my cheap-o mp3 player gives me xover options, but not specific, you have like high low mid i think? correct me if im wrong.
